Hurricane Update:
Hurricane Dorian was recently upgraded back to a Category 3 which means it has sustained winds over 111 mph. The effect on the Raleigh area shouldn’t be nearly as bad as areas to the Southeast. So start prepping for some donations going towards Wilmington. There is only 1 shelter open in the Triangle at this time and it’s at the Sears in North Gate Mall. Click here for a list of available shelters in NC. Basically, during the hurricane don’t do anything too stupid, and if you do, bring a friend that’s sober so they can record it and then email me a link to where the video is posted! Thanks!
This Weekend in Raleigh!
The hurricane should be making it’s way out of Raleigh sometime in the early afternoon on Friday, leaving us a really nice First Friday night & a great day on Saturday. Sunday once again becomes a bit sketchy, but aren’t Sundays always sketchy? Anyway, be safe and lets have a fun weekend! We have several really big and awesome events listed below, please enjoy and share with your friends!
Below you’ll see events we recommend by date and at the bottom of this post you’ll find information on how to join Explore Raleigh and suggest future events for us to recommend to other members!
All Weekend:
HOPSCOTCH Music Festival
Hopscotch is in its 10th year, this year it’s sharing the stage with Hurrican Dorian for the first couple days but Dorian is expected leave Raleigh early and go tour a few cities up north. All that BS being said, there are more awesome things than I can possibly list here, please go check out their site and see if anything catches your eye.
Raleigh Greek Festival
We have 3 days of Greek food, culture and fun at the NC State Fairgrounds. This is a really big and really popular event. If nothing else, go for the food. Tickets start at just $3.
Sep 6:
First Friday Raleigh
The weather should clear up in time for a really nice Friday night in Downtown Raleigh. Who knows if the city will need clean up or if you’ll be able to drive out of your neighborhood, but if the city is good to go, and you can make it out, I say enjoy a nice evening with some culture in Downtown Raleigh!
Freddie Mercury Birthday Bash
Okay, so… full disclosure this is my favorite event of the weekend! I’m a huge Queen fan and I love Freddie. This event may be a day late, but it certainly won’t be a dollar short. If you’re downtown swing by The London Bridge and grab a pint and sing along. It’s also a fundraiser for a good cause so this event checks all the boxes, DO NOT MISS IT!
Sep 7:
Tacos & Margaritas Bar Crawl
If you like tacos & margaritas.. what am I saying, everyone likes tacos & margaritas… might as well make an event out of it!
Pro Tip: If you’ve never had tacos from Armadillo Grill… DO IT!!! For some reason they are not part of this event even though you walk by them like 3 or 4 times during this crawl… but they really might have the best tacos in the Triangle.
Hellfire & Brimstone!
AWWW HELLFIRE & BRIMSTON!!! IT’S KANE!!! This is destined to be a slobberknocker!! Live wrestling is one of those things that’s just fun for the whole family. Sure it takes some imagination, maybe a few pints, but just go with it, yell alot and have a blast. If nothing else the athleticism they display is worth some claps & screams… even if their acting deserves some BOOOO’s!!!
Sep 8:
Hurricanes 5k
This is quite possibly THE BEST timed 5k. You can run the Hurricanes 5k just days after a hurricane slams the east coast of NC. Some may say it’s insensitive and poorly timed, but those people are pansies and I’m not sure they’re even speaking English so go for it, have fun, set a new personal best and if nothing else be proud to be a Caniac!
Honeyfest @ City Market
Okay, lets end the weekend on a good positive note, there may be a bit of rain in the forecast for Sunday, but maybe it’ll hold out until you can get some local honey. Honey is one of the best things nature gives us, it’s right there with Tacos, Pizza & Deadlifts. So come out, support some local bee people and thank them for doing what they do, because when the bee’s die.. no more honey… no more tacos…. no more pizza… and no more deadlifts… it’s tragic… so get your deadlifts in while you can!
