There are many reasons to be excited about what’s happening this weekend! One of my favorite events, SPARKcon, will be going down in the warehouse district of Downtown Raleigh. Pirates will be invading Dix Park and tiny homes will be popping up all over the fairgrounds. Who could ask for more fun than this?

Main Event:
SPARKcon is Here!
SPARKcon has been coming since…. about this time last year.. and well… it’s finally here. This is truly one of the best events that Raleigh hosts. There is just so much to enjoy, and so much happiness and so many positive vibes in Downtown during SPARKcon. I can’t say enough about it, click the link above to check out their schedule of events. And please don’t miss my favorite event within the event, the Fire Conclave at Union Station Plaza, on Friday night from 930pm-10pm.

Jason Aldean: Ride All Night Tour
The biggest music event of the weekend is the Jason Aldean concert at Walnut Creek. You may not be too into country music, but country concerts can be a lot of fun and everything this guy touches turns platinum, or at least his albums do. So if you’re into it… or even if you’re not… try it out!
Music Bingo @ PourWorks
If you’re looking to try out a place you’ve probably never been, check out PourWorks! Test your music knowledge and compete against your friends and other patrons to win all sorts of prizes in their music bingo. There will, of course, be music and drink specials throughout the night, and as always, everyone is welcome at PourWorks!

City of Oaks Pirate Fest @ Dix Park
The NC Museum of History is putting on this event at Dix Park. It should be a lot of fun, here are the two main things you’ll want to check out before you go, the schedule of events and food trucks in attendance. This event is tons of fun for kids, and a lot of fun for adults. Sorry, no pups in the event area (#BooThat).
Hops for Hope
This is the *FEEL GOOD EVENT* of the weekend… If you like craft brews, and you like to support good causes, you’ll 100% love this event! This event has 24 participating breweries and a bunch of food trucks, 3 live bands & a vendor village. Last year the event sold out, so get your tickets ASAP! All proceeds benefit Children’s Flight of Hope, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides air transportation for children in need of specialized medial care all across the country. For more details please visit trianglehops4hope.org.
Virtual Reality Experience of Michelangelo’s David w/ Epic Games @ NCMA
I’ve had a few different experiences with various virtual reality simulators, and they’ve all impressed me. This experience could be really cool as it allows you to explore and examine Michelangelo’s David in great detail. And while you’re there you can also tour the museum both inside and out. The NCMA is a great place to spend an afternoon.
The Tiny House Expo @ NC Fairgrounds
Anyone else been watching Tiny House Nation on Netflix? No? Just me? FINE! It’s not the best show on Netflix, but it’s interesting. Going tiny is the next BIG THING! There is a growing interest in the minimalist lifestyle, freeing up time and lowering overall stress. Or maybe, you’re having dreams of a home in the mountains or at the beach, and you’re thinking of a tiny home as an affordable solution. Whatever your thought pattern, or, if you’re beginning the exercise of paring down your belongings, this event could be an interesting way to spend part of an afternoon.

We usually feature events, but, for this Sunday, we’re featuring a venue. Check out “Imurj – The Artists’ Cafe” who has a pretty wicked lineup of interesting events almost all the time, but certainly this Sunday. They start the day with a screen printing workshop, then get into stand up comedy, followed by open mic poetry and finishing off the night with karaoke. I’m also recommending this venue because a lot of people will already be downtown watching Football, or checking out the final events of SPARKcon, and it’s an easy walk over to Imurj. So do yourself a favor and swing by!
