Another weekend, another reason to celebrate! But before you do, lets take some time to contact our friends and especially take a minute to reach out to a friend you haven’t heard from in a while. Let them know you’re thinking of them and you hope they’re doing well. Now… who needs some tips on what this weekend offers??
Below you’ll see events we recommend by date and at the bottom of this post you’ll find information on how to join Explore Raleigh and suggest future events for us to recommend to other members!
Aug 9th:
Burial Re-Grand Opening:
This is the Re-Grand opening after a recent renovation. The key takeaways are 1. The bar is bigger & 2. Burial now has their own bathrooms! The 2nd one is obviously the most important. What’s cool about this event is that they will not only have all the good stuff they usually have, they are also releasing 4 new brews and for this event only, they’re having special brews from all over the country. Their limited brews last while they last, so hurry up if you’re thirsty!
Rebelution – Good Vibes Summer Tour 2019:
Rebelution is reggae rock band from California. The band has been praised for its crafty melodies, socially conscious lyrics & savvy musicianship. If you’re looking for good music and good people, this is where to find both. Afterwards, grab a rickshaw and tour around Fayetteville st until something grabs your eye and then enjoy the rest of the evening mixing it up downtown.
Aug 10th:
Dog Days of Summer – Midtown Farmers Market:
The weekend long Dog Days of Summer events starts in the morning with a CFP event at the Midtown Farmers Market in North Hills. There will be everything from puppies to full grown and elderly pups that need attention, love and a good home. Do yourself and the world a favor and take one of these guys home. Guaranteed to improve the quality of your life!
Dog Days of Summer – Crabtree Valley Mall:
This is a fun event that I always try to attend. I just love seeing how happy and excited all the pups get when they get in the mall and there’s this sensory overload from all the new sounds, smells and ALL THE PEOPLE!! This is another Cause for Paws Event.
Artisan Food Fair:
So, I don’t have much on this but it certainly has potential. First of all its at the State Farmers Market so that’s a fun hour or so by itself. But this event is supposed to add a bunch more free samples and things you can buy. So if you haven’t been to the Farmers Market in a while, this is a great time to do it!
Margarita Madness 5k:
Okay, so full honesty here… I think this is stupid! But that doesn’t mean it’s not fun. If you’re just now finding out about it, you’ll probably be in no shape to run a 5k plastered off Margaritas… On 2nd thought… you’re probably in the perfect shape for this event!! haha This isn’t like the Krispy Kreme challenge where its actually a competition, this is more about having fun with friends, drinking a few Margaritas and enjoying how beautiful Dix Park is! So don’t worry about a finish time, just worry about who’s going to be walking beside you getting drunk.
National S’Morrisville Day:
Okay, so… another weird event that I don’t fully understand, but… it’s S’mores related.. so… I LIKE IT!!!
These are the 4 locations with featured Food Trucks:
- Church Street Park w/ Ty’s All Natural
- Healthy Food Hub w/ Daddy Bob’s BBQ (This location is a maybe..?)
- Morrisville Community Park w/ Gussys
- Northwest Park w/ Mr Mongolian
Here’s a quick google map link for all the locations: https://goo.gl/maps/snfvq1ugGVmjRXt76
The Dude Abides Movie Party: Outdoor Movie @ NCMA
The Big Lebowski is a great movie! I understand why people may not have liked it when it first came out, but now that everyone (almost everyone) knows what to expect, everyone (almost everyone) says it’s GREAT! I’ve seen this movie at least a dozen times and I’ve been to this event for a the past couple years, it’s a lot of fun and possibly the best way to watch the movie. It’s outdoors, so bring a chair or blanket and I recommend coming early as this is a very popular event and sometimes sets attendance records!
Super Jacks Big Jeep Jam:
This is a good cause event that started as a little boys dream to experience the feeling of freedom associated with riding in a jeep with the top and doors off. Truth be told if you’ve never done it, it’s great (given proper weather conditions). But the request has grown a bit, and it’s now a charitable event where proceeds go to Jacks family. So come out, show support, check out some jeeps and let Jack know he’s not alone in his journey.
Aug 11th:
Explore Dix Park – Guided Walking Tour:
So if you don’t want to get blitzed on Margarita’s with your friends and stroll through Dix Park, maybe you’d like a guided tour where they talk about the past, present & future of the park. It’s 2 hours and covers about 3.5 miles. Bring some water, bring some sunscreen and maybe some bug spray. Dix has some big plans for their park and this is a great hands on.. errr uhh feet on the ground approach at understanding and visualizing what they have in mind for the park!
Making the Match – Finding the Right Dog
The final Dog Days of Summer event recommendation is more educational than anything else. If you or your family is looking to adopt, foster or just help others find good companion animals this can be very helpful. There’s a $5 donation that goes to the wake county animal center. The event is led by a professional dog trainer and will cover all the ‘needs to know’ about pairing the right pup with the right person or family.
