Okay, sooooo the weather looks a bit crappy this weekend. The weather gods are guestimating thunderstorms all weekend in the neighborhood of 22%-56% (ish?). I can’t help but laugh because, what does that even mean?? But anyway, lets mostly plan for some indoor activities this weekend! Here we go!!!
Below you’ll see events we recommend by date and at the bottom of this post you’ll find information on how to join Explore Raleigh and suggest future events for us to recommend to other members!
All Weekend:
Dixie Gun & Knife Show: Aug 3 & 4
I know with today’s political environment the conversation about guns can be very polarizing. Whatever side of the gun debate you’re on, whether you intend to make a purchase or you’re just gathering competitive intelligence for the 2020 election, a gun show can be both fun and educational. With that being said a gun & knife show is my candy store! It’s the best way to get your hands on hundreds of different models to see which one you like best and it pits dealers right beside each other and makes them compete for your purchase, so you get both a wide assortment and a good price. But, if you’re not interested in buying a gun it can be very educational to go and talk to some of these dealers to find out about the purchase process and what all the ‘gun show loop hole’ talk is really all about.
Aug 2nd:
Eddie Griffin Live:
In the spirit of indoor entertainment let me recommend Eddie Griffin live at Improv Raleigh which for some reason is in Cary, but closer to Morrisville… you know what.. lets just call it Durham. Anyway, Eddie is a very funny guy and tickets can be had for just over $50 at the time of this post. So avoid the rain and have a laugh!
First Friday Raleigh:
Yay! It’s first Friday! But what does that mean? Usually it means the same ole boring stuff it usually means “art & beer”, but what’s interesting is that Moore Square is reopening this weekend and it should be a fun experience. And IF the weather holds, it should be a fun night to be downtown. (The weather probably won’t hold)
First Friday City Market:
With the reopening of Moore Square First Friday at City Market is the place to go, not only do they have Artspace a large indoor venue full of independent artists, but they have outdoor music, entertainment and several places to eat and relax. But lets say it doesn’t rain, the reopening of the adjacent Moore Square should a lot of fun with live music and the home of the all new Square Burger!
First Friday CAM:
If you want to see/experience some art, but don’t want to brave any type of weather, CAM is a great place to check out. They usually have some really weird stuff, which means it’s smart and educational! They usually have a food truck outside and sometimes they even have bands and other entertainment.
Date Night AcroYoga:
Okay love birds! This one’s for you. This could be a lot of a fun or a tragic night at the ER. Only time and effort will tell. But, jokes aside this is a lot of fun and if it’s your first time it’s a free event. AcroYoga is a great way to get closer and build trust in one another. Triangle Rock Club does some really fun things, they’re more than just a place to climb, they offer a friendly environment that’s good fun for all ages. If you’re looking for something fun and different, this is it!
Aug 3rd:
NC Japan Summer Festival:
Okay, no jokes here, this event is very interesting. First and foremost it’s in the EXPO Hall at the NC Fairgrounds so it doesn’t matter if its super hot or super rainy. Secondly there are many fun things planned at this event, and I can barely even scratch the surface but there will be food, entertainment, culture and tradition… and probably a guy with a sword! (Okay, that was the only joke.) Tickets are only $6 but if you get your tickets from their website they’re even cheaper, and you get early entry which means better access to the food! So do that!!!
Comedy Night:
Free Comedy is sometimes a scary thing. But, it’s a taproom, so it all kinda evens out. Either he’s not funny enough, or you’re not drunk enough, either way it doesn’t take much to balance it all out and have a good time. Also, Clouds is a pretty cool venue and worth checking out, especially for a free comedy show. If nothing else, just go to heckle & boo people with love. haha
Aug 4th:
Moore Square Summer Movie Series:
Okay, so I know I said it’s gunna rain… And I know I said I’d focus on indoor events, but come on.. you don’t actually expect me to do what I say I’m going to do… do you? Anyway, outdoor movies at the newly renovated Moore Square should be fun, here’s the August playlist:
- 8/4 The Iron Giant
- 8/11 Captain Marvel
- 8/18 10 Things I Hate About You
- 8/25 Mamma Mia!
Deep Therapy:
Okay, so this is new to me, but I’m kind of a Buddhist so this kind of appeals to me… but it comes highly recommended by a Latino friend of mine, and the rumor I’m starting (which so far has been proven true) is that Latino friends give GREAT recommendations! So here’s the skinny… $5 cover, Live DJ performances, Holistic Healing Therapy, Kombucha Cocktails, Tarot Reading, Henna Artist & other fun stuff that will help ease the soul and prepare the mind for a rather dreadful work week…
