This weekends weather report calls for sun, clouds & highs in the lower 90’s. So, a bit warm but not bad and could be a great weekend to get out and do some stuff. So we scrapped through the web and found some interesting and fun things happening, hope you enjoy!
Below you’ll see events we recommend by date and at the bottom of this post you’ll find information on how to join Explore Raleigh and suggest future events for us to recommend to other members!
Aug 16:
Grand Re-Opening at Uncorked: (Date Night Made Easy)
So this is simple & easy, it’s a grand opening for a retail wine & tasting shop so check it out, enjoy the music that starts at 6pm. After you’ve had your fill, check out some of the other shops in the area in the area including:
So it’s a great little date night that takes very little effort, grab some wine, maybe a brew, then grab some food and finally a little sweet treat for dessert!
Rocky Horror Picture Show:
I have yet to experience this but the plan is to check it out tonight! If you don’t want to go alone, message us via our Facebook page and we try to coordinate a group effort so we can make some new friends and enjoy a fun show!
Aug 17:
Clear the Shelter Adoption Special:
If you’re still looking for that new member of your family WCAC is waving fees when you adopt 1 dog or up to 2 cats. They little guys and gals are too adorable to not adopt, come by and see what they have to offer or visit their website: https://pets.wakegov.com/gallery
Summer Daze Festival Vol 2:
It’s another all day music fest that starts at noon and ends at 10pm. It’s a free event & there will be several vendors including food trucks, so bring a chair or blanket and enjoy an afternoon/evening of good music.
Movies at Dix Park – Cars 3:
Full disclosure I’ve yet to see a movie at Dix, but again, planning to this weekend! The movie Cars 3 starts at 8pm but the event starts at 6pm so you can grab a seat and check out their vendors. They also have a “touch a truck” event between 6-8pm which I’m a bit unsure about… but maybe worth checking out??
Celebrating Nina Simone featuring Lisa Simone in Concert:
Nina Simone is a legendary singer and civil rights activist from NC. Her daughter Lisa Simone is an actress and jazz vocalist. If you’re looking for a great evening full of amazing music, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Aug 18
Corn Grinding Demonstrations & Costumed Tours:
At first thought, costumed tours & corn grinding might sound pretty lame… but I assure you it’s only somewhat lame. What is the awesome thing about this event is that it’s at Yates Mill County Park, which is BEAUTIFUL! There is a walking path around the lake that is only about 1 mile long and if you have an interest in going to the park, the best time is on a demonstration day because then you can get the full picture of what this place really was. But again, it’s a beautiful lake so be sure to take a lot of pictures.
Breaking Benjamin:
This probably the biggest concert of the weekend and is happening at Walnut Creek. Breaking Benjamin is an American rock band that has been around about 20 years, they have 6 albums out and are popular around the world. If you’re into it.. could be a lot of fun!
