I recently attended the media preview for Small Treasures at the NCMA. It was my first media preview and it was quite enjoyable. They set out coffee and some breakfast goodies for everyone. There was probably 35 people or more there. We did a walk through and the museums curator pointed out some of the more unique pieces and explained what made them so intersting. I really enjoyed it. I’m planning to go visit the exhibit at least 1 more time and I plan to take the Explore Raleigh/ Do Stuff with Jon group as well. It’ll be fun. 🙂
So, about the exhibit… It features 66 paintings by the world’s greatest Dutch and Flemish painters, including Anthony van Dyck, Adriaen Brouwer, David Teniers, Frans Hals, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Jan Steen, and many others. I’m use to looking at larger painting and having to step by to see the forest and then get close and examine the trees, but with these small treasure paintings you have to step in to see the forest and squint a little bit to examine the trees. I found it to be a rather enjoyable experience and I’m not really an artsy fartsy kind of guy but I can’t wait to go back and get a better look some of these beautiful paintings. The detail on them is just amazing.
Below you’ll see a few of the pictures I took, some of them are of the art work, some of the people doing the walk through and some… I just liked the way the space looked so I took pictures of spaces containing artwork. And now that I think about it. YEP! That’s art, that’s my contribution to the art world. There, it’s done! The world may continue to revolve. 🙂
