“Rembrandt in America”
At the North Carolina Museum of Art
December 11th
The Rembrandt exhibit at the NCMA was an impressive cultural experience. I probably don’t get enough culture in my life so when an opportunity like this presents itself I have to take advantage of it. I encourage everyone to go and look at this collection of art work. But I encourage you to go through a couple times. I walked through it twice and if I wasn’t so lazy I’d have gone through it again. The first thing I did was bring up pictures of all the pieces of art on my computer and listen to the mobile audio guide on the NCMA website. Then when I got to the museum I walked through with a docent who gave really good insight and details that were not offered in in the audio guide. Finally I walked back through and viewed a couple of my more favorite pieces. I like Rembrandt’s style. I find that the painting he did for people who took control of his work and made him paint what they wanted, I just don’t care for as much. I like the way he sees things, dark, heavy, deep and focused.
Since I was already at the Museum I stopped by the new building and did a walk through. Of all the great pieces of art we have I have a clear favorite. I don’t know who painted it, and I don’t know what it’s called and frankly, I don’t care to know; not yet. But it’s a piece I can stare at for a while and enjoy the entire time and come back to it and stare at it some more. Now that I think of it, it’s kind of creepy!
