30 Americans at the NCMA
Sunday August 4th @ 2pm
It’s the last weekend to catch the 30 Americans exhibit. So I plan to check it out this Sunday at 2pm. The museum is free but the charge for the 30 Americans exhibit is $10. I have a couple tickets that I will be giving away, so a couple people will get to see the exhibit for free.
I know this is Labor Day weekend and many of you have plans to head out of town on vacation. But if you’ve planned a staycation you might as well come check out the museum with me this Sunday.
Like I said most the museum is free so I plan to explore the free areas first. Once we’ve done that those who would like to see the 30 American exhibit are more than welcome to join me as we explore that as well. Some of you may decide you’ve gotten your fill of museum “stuff” and that’s fine.
I look forward to seeing everyone there!!!
PS: If you can’t make this trip to the museum we’ll be going again in a month or two to see the Rembrandt exhibit. The NCMA will be it’s only stop on the entire east coast. You won’t want to miss that one!!!!
Post Event Review: Successful (7 attendees)
The NCMA is a very nice place to spend an afternoon. One of our group members is a docent there and gave us a rather nice tour around the museum and she may be doing some tours of the downtown museums for us in the near future if anyone is interested. One of the first things I’d like to point out is their security. Don’t touch anything, don’t stand too close to anything and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD don’t try to steal anything. Their security is on point. I’ll just say that I learned all that through trial and error. We tried a few things and well.. basically got busted every time. Ok, moving on. Their permanent collection is quite impressive. They have a wide range of pieces from all types of genres and eras. The Egyptian art was by far one of my more favorite collections. I’d like to thank all those people who have donated so much to that museum, most notably the Goodnights as they’re the only ones I can actually remember by name. It’s donations from people like that, that make the museum such a wonderful place.
The 30 Americans exhibit was very interesting. There was a wide range of pieces in the collection. Some of it was rather vulgar (but awesome) and some of it was really beautiful. We couldn’t take any pictures of the art, wish we could have. One of my favorite pieces was a quote from Richard Pryor entitled “Gold Nobody Knew me“. Big Richard Pryor fan here. But anyway, if you missed out on it this weekend, you missed out on it. It’s gone now but they will soon be getting ready for the Rembrandt exhibit, and that will be AWESOME!!
